COACHES CORNER


JOHNNY ROONEY
Johnny Rooney has been a Coach as well as Physical Education teacher in Montgomery Township since 1997.  He is currently the Head Coach of the Montgomery High School Varsity Softball Team. 2010 was another successful year for Coach Rooney.  He currently holds a career record of 161 wins and 56 losses and he and his staff were named Courier News’ 2010 Coaching Staff of the Year.  As well, the MHS Varsity Softball Team won the Skyland Conference Championship Title for the sixth time and also set an all time Montgomery Athletic Department record for most wins in a season for ANY varsity sports program.

Coach Rooney graduated from Montgomery High School and completed a post-graduate year at The Hun School.  He received recognition in both Baseball and Basketball at the Conference, County and State levels while representing both schools.  In 1993 Johnny accepted an athletic scholarship to play Baseball at C.W. Post College where he played as both a Catcher and a Designated Hitter.  Coach Rooney returned to Montgomery having graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. He began his Coaching Career as an Assistant Softball
Coach in Montgomery in 1997 and continued there until he was hired as an Assistant to the Princeton University Softball Staff in 2001.  That year the Tigers finished 2nd in the Ivy League. Coach Rooney returned to coaching in Montgomery in 2004 as Girls Varsity Softball Coach.

Johnny Rooney’s Hit n’ Run Academy is celebrating its 13th successful year teaching young players the fine art of playing Baseball and Softball.  Playing, teaching and coaching Baseball and Softball at the High School and College levels have made Coach Rooney one of the most recognized and productive instructors in the State of New Jersey.

MIKE FALCO

Coach Falco is a Health and Physical Education Teacher at the Montgomery Lower Middle School.  He was also the Middle School Girls Softball Coach for two years and just completed his eighth season of coaching College Basketball.

Coach  Falco began his coaching career at Mercer County Community College as an Assistant Coach. He was on a staff that helped lead the Vikings to two Garden State Athletic Conference Championships and back-to-back 20 win campaigns. Falco helped recruit players locally, nationally and internationally. He has also been a member of the coaching staff of Marshall University and is currently an Assistant Basketball Coach at The College of New Jersey.  Coach Falco is responsible numerous aspects of the basketball program at TCNJ including recruiting, scouting, and player development.

Coach Falco holds a degree in Health and Exercise Science from The College of New Jersey as well as a Masters Degree in Adult Technical Education from Marshall University.

SUZANNE TRAUTWEIN

Coach Trautwein is currently in her tenth year teaching Elementary Education and is presently a Second Grade teacher at Orchard Hill Elementary School.  As a Coach, Trautwein begins her sixth year as Varsity Assistant with the Montgomery High School Girls Softball Team this Spring. Previously, she coached Softball at Hopewell Valley Central High School, La Quinta High School in California, and was one of the original organizers of the 12 and Under Montgomery Mavericks Travel Softball Team.

Coach Trautwein is a graduate of Montgomery High School
where she ran Cross Country, played Soccer, Basketball and Softball for the Cougars. During her tenure, she held numerous High School athletic records.  Suzanne played Collegiate Softball at both the University of Connecticut and Holy Family University and was the recipient of the Academic All-American Softball Award. Coach Trautwein earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Holy Family University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Pepperdine University.


ERICH TRAUTWEIN

Coach Trautwein has been a Physical Education teacher at Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart for five years.  He is currently in his fourth year coaching Middle School Wrestling at the school and began his first year as Baseball Coach this Spring. Coach Trautwein is also the Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach at West Windsor Plainsboro North during the Fall season and is the Boys Varsity Volleyball Coach in the Spring. 

Previously, Coach Trautwein held the positions of both Girls High School Softball and High School Volleyball Coach at West Windsor Plainsboro South after which time he became the Assistant Softball Coach at Tusculum College in Tennessee. 

Coach Trautwein is a graduate of Montgomery High School and holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Montclair State University.
